De Vere NETTS miss out on promotion

Senior British League – Division 2 South

Going into the final weekend of matches we had a chance of promotion to Divison One South of the Senior British League. Unfortunately it was not to be, despite two wins on the Saturday. Steve Kerns official report is below;

The round 13 clash between Godalming Coversure and De Vere NETTS finished tied at 4-4. Neil Charles was again the outstanding performer. He beat Alain Choo-Choy (11-7, 14-12, 11-9) and in the battle of the division’s top two players he again defeated Michael Chan (24 wins out of 28) 6-11, 11-6, 12-10, 11-7. Minda Sinkus impressed for NETTS by beating Andreas Pusch 5-11, 11-4, 5-11, 11-5, 11-9 to tie the scores at 3-3 having seen his colleague Paul Davison miss out in five ends against Keith Falconer (12-10, 5-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-6). Alain Choo-Choy made no mistake against Paul Davison (11-6, 11-9, 11-5) but it wasn’t enough to take both points – Nigel Hodder defeated Keith Falconer 9-11, 11-9, 11-9, 2-11, 11-8 to tie the scores.

It is relegation for Generation 2 I (two points) but they won’t be too displeased with their showing against Fellows Cranleigh in round 13. Tony Reynolds (11 wins out of 28) won both of his singles, the first time that a Generation II player had done so this year. Very good wins as well – Reynolds beat Zayd Mauthoor 11-9, 11-7, 3-11, 8-11, 11-8 and “Magic” Nakielski 13-11, 11-5, 13-11. Tony Halling and Ray Lam both won twice for Fellows Cranleigh, with Lam clinching the points for his team by getting the better of Andy Bugden 11-7, 11-8, 11-3 in the last game.
