A look back to March 24…..
NETTS Members were successful in the Braintree League Championships held at ECRC recently. Paul Davison won his eighth Men Singles title and paired up with Club Chairman James Hicks, to take the Veterans Doubles. James later just missed out in the Over 50’s final to Rayne’s Adam Buxton. Arun Cochrane was runner-up in the Under 11’s singles. Charles Calisin won the Division 3 title and teamed up with Chelmsford based Omar Wasi to win the Junior Doubles. Davina Brazier won the Handicap doubles alongside Wasi. 11 year old Annabel Dix impressed on her tournament debut.
In the Braintree League itself the NETTS “B” team, captained by Peter Lewis is currently top of Division 2 and close to sealing the title. Star man Jon Hill is unbeaten in 17 matches and Szczepan Ziobiro and Joe Meleschko are both at an over 80% win ratio.
NETTS “D”, captained by Michael Goodchild are currently top of Division 3. The fast improving Charles Calisin is their star man, with 38 wins out of 42 matches (90%). Following closely behind is Charles’s Dad, Jimmy, on 85%. Hopefully both teams can do it!
Lastly, NETTS are sad to report the passing of one of its members, Mike Baldwin. Mike was a Bat and Chat regular and a member of the clubs “B” team. Mike had a heart attack after a match in the Colchester League last Tuesday and unfortunately never regained consciousness. Mike was remembered with a minutes silence at Bat and Chat on Monday and at the League Finals night on Friday. He is survived by his wife Gloria and son Tom.
